I stay in bed all day

When the birds are busy with their song
And the morning fog goes drifting on
For to lie in bed is what I long
I stay in bed all day

When the noonday sun that beats on down
Turns baldy pates into golden crowns
I’ll be laying low in Slumbertown
I stay in bed all day

When evening with its gentle ease
Brings pious people to their knees
I’ll be in the scratcher feeding fleas
I stay in bed all day

When night time turns the world to dark
I get up then to make my mark
Just as a dog begins to bark
Who has stayed in bed all day
